Cave Ninjas, coming to get you

This is the official homepage of MUSC, the Manchester University Speleology Club. Speleology, also called Caving or Potholing, is the practice of climbing down caves and holes in the ground in order to explore the passageways and caverns found underground, and to get very muddy. It is not a particularly widespread hobby but if you are looking for adventure, excitement, new friends, new experiences and lots of booze, then we are the club for you!

In what other club could you find yourself abseiling down 50 metre waterfalls then walking through underground rivers, exploring the unknown, before pushing yourself to the limit by traversing across deep crevices with a 30 metre drop below you, and all within just weeks of joining? We cavers have it all: rock, water, adrenalin, breathtaking formations, and we're dead nice too!

We normally leave Manchester and head for and under the hills about four times a term, escaping to the Yorkshire Dales, Derbyshire, South Wales and the Mendips, among other places. For more information about our trips, see the Log Book.

We meet every Wednesday in the pub to socialise and organise upcoming trips. Come and see us at The Lass O' Gowrie near the BBC from about 7.30pm on a Wednesday. If you want to find out more about our club and what we do, check out our gallery, read our FAQ, or email one of the committee.
